Hamburg may be a Free City of the Hanseatic League but it doesn't have an honours system. That's how it's been throughout history and no doubt that's how it will stay. But every now and then, a commendation is needed, when an outstanding personality has proved to be a global ambassador for the Hanseatic city as a result of their special achievements. Those who have embarked on a course and achieved success are recognised by the "Congregation of Alster Lock Keepers S.C." with their badge of honour, Honorary Lock Keeper.
